With the recent news from WWDC and other developments, I've gone from wanting to be the first on the block with iPhone to sitting on the fence, taking a wait-and-see approach. Here are a few things that irk me:
- No MMS. I don't use this much now, but if I got iPhone, I'd get a plan that allows lots of data and texts, so I'd start using this much more frequently.
- No iChat. If iPhone had "just… the internet" then I should be able to use iChat to chat with my AIM and Jabber friends. The crappy free phone I got five years ago supported AIM. WFT?
- No 3rd party apps. This is one that really bothers me. Apple gave developers and users a big "fuck you" at WWDC by telling them to build web apps that could be used on iPhone. I'm sorry Apple, but that's bullshit. Even with the shitty stream I was watching, I could see the UI differences between the native address book app and the web one. It's insulting to claim otherwise. Also, web apps won't support Multi-Touch. Finally, there are already some apps I want that Apple doesn't offer and would suck in web form, such as Terminal and Remote Desktop.
- No 3G. I might as well just wait until they release a 3G version (Wifi isn't as ubiquitous as Steve claims).
