Pre-Depaving Date: 2008-06-16 This is the site of the depaving project before we began. The orange represent the quadrants of work with walkways through the middle. The ground was precut/scored by a machine to make the work easier. Lots of manual labor remained, but the volunteers made a quick job of it.

Raking Date: 2008-06-16 After the asphalt was torn up, we raked to get rid of the last chunks of asphalt, trash, and other gunk. Then we put the gravel in piles.

Arched Entry Date: 2008-06-17 Since the theoretical street was to be converted in an existing car using city, we decided to create an entranceway to separate the car using from carfree areas. I recommended a building arch (with rooms in it) to cross over the street, but we settled on a small arch with trees behind it.

Square Dance In The Street Date: 2008-06-20 Davis between 3rd and 4th is designed as a festival street. It is much nicer than a normal street and is designed to be shutdown for outdoor events. We held a square dance in the street.
Square Dance Date: 2008-06-20 It was my first time square dancing and I had a lot of fun. I got a very real sense of community and everyone was real friendly. People joined us throughout the evening and we garnered a crowd of onlookers enjoying the music and dancing.

Bike Scramble Date: 2008-06-20 This is a cool intersection near the Steel Bridge that allows bicyclists easily enter the roadway. Without the scramble, bikers either have to cross the street twice or make an illegal turn onto the road.
On Street Bike Parking Date: 2008-06-20 This is the $2000 on street bike parking. We also saw a $50,000 bike parking station, featuring a curb extension and roof.

South Waterfront Date: 2008-06-21 We had a closing party at the South Waterfront Discovery Center. The area very much reminded me of the whole South Lake Union planned neighborhood being built. This one has more of a Radiant City feel, though, much like downtown Vancouver.
